About This Course

This course introduces supervisors to their legal duties, due diligence expectations, and enforcement mechanisms under both Provincial and Federal OHS frameworks. It is designed to help supervisors not only comply with the law but also foster a proactive culture of health and safety in their organizations. While this program references the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario, it is understood that this information can be considered best practices and will be relevant to most Provinces and Territories in Canada. This course is applicable across all Canadian industries, with an emphasis on Ontario workplaces, and insight into federal workplaces under Canada Labour Code Part II.

By the end of this course, supervisors will be able to: 

  • Understand the legal framework of OHS in Canada, with a focus on Ontario's OHSA 
  • Identify their legal responsibilities as a supervisor 
  • Demonstrate what it means to exercise “due diligence” in supervisory roles 
  • Understand the three basic rights of workers (Right to Know, Participate, Refuse) 
  • Recognize enforcement actions such as inspections, fines, stop-work orders, prosecutions 
  • Implement effective safety policies and practices aligned with legal standards 
  • Communicate OHS expectations clearly to their teams 
  • Manage hazards, incidents, and workplace investigations within the law

Is there a time limit for online courses?

Everyone learns at a different pace and everyone retains information differently. When you take a course online, you go at your own speed. If you get to a certain point and don’t fully understand the material, you can pause and go back for a review. On the other hand, if everything makes perfect sense, you can go straight through the entire course right to the test.

How does virtual proctoring/testing with webcam monitoring work?

When you start your test, you will be monitored via your webcam. If you disappear from the screen or appear to be consulting another device or other material, you will be disqualified from the course.
