Self-Evaluator Online
Self-Evaluator training is the required training for completing a SECOR with AMTA. This course will provide you with information and resources to help you successfully complete a SECOR self-evaluation. The Small Employer Certificate of Recognition known as SECOR, is important to help employers achieve a safer work place. The Alberta Motor Transport Association is proud to work with the Government of Alberta and Partnerships in Injury Reduction to bring this important program to Alberta’s commercial transportation industry. You must have completed AMTA's Health and Safety System Building (HSSB), prior to taking this course. If both course are not complete, your audit will not be accepted by AMTA.

What You'll Learn
- Explain the purpose and process of a Small Employer Certificate of Recognition (SECOR)
- Explain the SECOR process at the AMTA
- Describe the information and documentation that must be submitted with a SECOR audit
- Describe the process of providing a complete answer to SECOR audit questions
About This Course
A SECOR is awarded to employers with up to 10 employees who demonstrates that their health and safety management system meets the standards set out by Alberta Occupational Health and Safety. A business with SECOR can follow a program to achieve COR if they grow to have more than ten employees.
The AMTA requires employers to have an employee successfully complete the Health and Safety System Building course (or equivalent) and complete this training as a prerequisite to the SECOR process. Employers must then create, or revise an existing health and safety management system that contains the elements included in the HSSB training.
This is a voluntary program. There may be corporations who require bidding contractors to have a valid SECOR. This is not a compliance program.
A SECOR is awarded after a self-audit of the employer’s health and safety management system and a successful review of the audit by the employer’s Certifying Partner.
Certifying Partners are organizations that work with the government of Alberta, to offer the SECOR program. There are several within the province of Alberta, that provide training and audit reviews for the many industries they represent. They may offer slightly different SECOR audit instruments, however they all meet the partnership standards. The AMTA is a Certifying Partner. Once an audit passes the quality assurance review, AMTA will request the certificate from the government to issue and co-sign the SECOR certificate.
Employers always benefit from creating an effective health and safety management system. Employers who achieve SECOR may also qualify for discounts on their WCB premiums.

Everyone learns at a different pace and everyone retains information differently. When you take a course online, you go at your own speed. If you get to a certain point and don’t fully understand the material, you can pause and go back for a review. On the other hand, if everything makes perfect sense, you can go straight through the entire course right to the test.
How does virtual proctoring/testing with webcam monitoring work?
When you start your test, you will be monitored via your webcam. If you disappear from the screen or appear to be consulting another device or other material, you will be disqualified from the course. The company responsible for virtual proctoring is Integrity Advocate. You can find out more about how their system works here.
