Manager's Role
Significant changes to Alberta OH&S legislation completed in 2020 came into effect on December 1st, 2021. These changes impact this course. AMHSA is in the process of updating all affected eLearning and instructor-led courses. As these updates are in process, a supplement has been created and uploaded to this course that will provide updated information on the new legislation. This legislation applies to Alberta residents. This online Manager’s Role course is designed as a condensed version for senior managers of the key concepts explained in the leadership for safety excellence program. The course covers the legal responsibilities of managers and key behaviours and activities of managers that have proven to create successful health and safety management systems.

About This Course
This online Manager’s Role course is designed as a condensed version for senior managers of the key concepts explained in the leadership for safety excellence program. The course covers the legal responsibilities of managers and key behaviours and activities of managers that have proven to create successful health and safety management systems.
This course discusses the foundational occupational health and safety concepts and terminology as well as defines the importance of organizational occupational health and safety systems with an appreciation for the impact that management’s commitment makes.
The course also includes information on the 10 legislated requirements for a Health and Safety Program in Alberta. It then bundles these requirements into specific program elements. The course guides participants through understanding the various occupational health and safety legislated responsibilities and the tickets and penalties outlined in legislation. It also stresses the importance of identifying and implementing strong leading indicators for your organization.

- Approximately 2.5 hours
- Pass Requirements
- A mark of 80% must be achieved in order to pass this course. The course is able to be taken three times in efforts to achieve the pass mark.
- Certificate
- Upon successful completion of this online course, a certificate of completion will be available for download and printing. This course is recommended to be retaken every 3 years from the course completion date indicated on the certificate.

Is there a time limit for online courses?
Everyone learns at a different pace and everyone retains information differently. When you take a course online, you go at your own speed. If you get to a certain point and don’t fully understand the material, you can pause and go back for a review. On the other hand, if everything makes perfect sense, you can go straight through the entire course right to the test.
How does virtual proctoring/testing with webcam monitoring work?
When you start your test, you will be monitored via your webcam. If you disappear from the screen or appear to be consulting another device or other material, you will be disqualified from the course.
