Walkie Stacker Safety (CAN)

Walkie stackers give warehouse and distribution crews the maneuverability to move and stack loads in narrow aisles and tight spaces, all while walking alongside the machine. But operating on foot at floor level, right next to the wheels, straddle legs, and a load that can be lifted overhead, means these machines carry serious risks, including crushed feet, pinning injuries, tip-overs, and falling loads. Skipping inspections or ignoring safe operating procedures is how those risks turn into injuries, which is exactly why proper training matters. In this course, we'll cover walkie stacker components and controls, pre-operational inspections, stability and load management, safe operation and route planning, battery charging, hazard identification, and emergency response.

About This Course

Walkie stackers are compact, walk-behind lift trucks built for tight indoor spaces like warehouses and distribution centres, where narrow aisles and frequent on-and-off handling are part of the job. Because you walk beside the machine rather than ride in it, you share the floor with the load and the wheels, which introduces hazards you would not face on a rider truck, from crushed feet to being pinned against a rack. Understanding the machine's components, limitations, and safe operating procedures is what keeps every lift a safe lift.

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • List when to use a walkie stacker
  • Name the differences between a walkie stacker and other lift trucks
  • Identify the key components of a walkie stacker
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks
  • Understand the basic principles of walkie stacker operation
  • Demonstrate safe operating procedures in various workplace scenarios
  • Recognize and mitigate potential hazards associated with walkie stacker use, and
  • Name the appropriate steps to take in an emergency
