Sit-Down Counterbalanced Forklift Operator Safety (OSHA)
Counterbalanced forklifts are workhorses across warehouses, construction sites, and loading docks, handling heavy loads that would otherwise take people hours to move by hand. Skip an inspection, ignore safe operating procedures, or rush a load, and that same machine can tip over, drop a load, or strike a worker with deadly results. Proper training is what separates safe, efficient operation from a serious incident. In this course, you'll learn to recognize a counterbalanced forklift and its parts, identify its safety features, perform a pre-operation inspection, and tell the difference between safe and unsafe forklift movements.

What You'll Learn
- OSHA legislation and operator training requirements (29 CFR 1910.178)
- The counterbalanced forklift and its classes (ITA Class 1, 4, and 5)
- Choosing the right forklift for the task
- Forklift components: counterweight, tow pin, forks, carriage, masts, hydraulic cylinders, chains, and tires
- Safety features, including the Operator Presence Sensing System
- Pre-operation inspection
- Hazards and risks
- Basic operations and safe movements
- Load handling: approaching, picking up, securing, and placing loads
- Traveling safely, including slopes, railway tracks, elevators, and docks
