- This module introduces you to the most common types of detector tube devices and the methods for operating them safely.
- This module thoroughly covers the three types of continuous gas monitors: personal, portable, and fixed. It also explains how to safely don, operate, maintain, and use this detection equipment as well as perform a bump test.
- This module provides a thorough explanation of combustible gas monitors and how they work. Topics covered include thermal conductivity, semiconductor sensors, catalytic sensors, display features, equipment related challenges, and measurements.
- This module provides an overview of fixed continuous monitors including their functions and characteristics.
- This modules provides an overview of gas testing and how to use detection equipment.
- In preparation for the final exam, this module will review the information that has been presented.
- The final exam includes 20 questions from a question bank and allows three attempts to pass. If you have an unsuccessful attempt, it is recommended that you review the content before attempting the exam again. Certification is only acquired with a passing mark of 80%.
About This Course
This course is designed to provide information about detection and control of flammable and toxic atmospheres to help you remain safe while working around potentially dangerous gases. This course explores the features and operation of the most common detector tube devices bellows and piston) and gas monitors (personal, portable, and fixed). This course meets IRP7 requirements and covers explosive ranges, toxic atmospheres, oxygen levels, flammable substances, flammable gas principles, vapor detection, and much more!

Anyone entering a work site that requires any type of gas detection equipment. This equipment can be found on many sites including plant sites, drilling operations, servicing operations, pipeline operations, up stream and down stream oilfield operations, confined spaces, and more.

- Testing conducted in this online Gas Detection course is designed to reinforce the information presented. A mark of 80% must be achieved in order to receive a certificate of completion. Participants are able to repeat the course twice if the pass mark is not achieved on the first attempt.

- Upon successful completion of this course, you will be issued a non-transferable certificate. This certificate is for your sole use and benefit for the purpose of acknowledging that you have successfully completed the course described therein. By signing the front of the certificate, you acknowledge, agree and assume full responsibility for the use of the certificate. By completing the course in its entirety and passing the final exam, you fully agree that you understand the information received in the course and any wrongful information given to others and/or actions taken is your full responsibility; the course owner is not liable in anyway.

Is there a time limit for online courses?
Everyone learns at a different pace and everyone retains information differently. When you take a course online, you go at your own speed. If you get to a certain point and don’t fully understand the material, you can pause and go back for a review. On the other hand, if everything makes perfect sense, you can go straight through the entire course right to the test.
How does virtual proctoring/testing with webcam monitoring work?
When you start your test, you will be monitored via your webcam. If you disappear from the screen or appear to be consulting another device or other material, you will be disqualified from the course.
