About This Course
Handheld mechanical testers are useful devices that operate without electricity to determine the concentration of a known gas. It is important to know how to use them correctly. For ongoing testing throughout the day, there are continuous monitors, including electrochemical sensors, catalytic bead sensors, infrared sensors, and photoionization sensors. Each type is designed to detect specific gases in different ways, giving users multiple options. After selecting the type of monitor, you’ll need to decide on placement—options include fixed positions, certain areas, or carried by workers. Each placement has pros and cons depending on your needs, so understanding these differences is key. Even with the right monitor in the right location, proper testing and maintenance are vital for effectiveness. Various methods for testing and maintaining monitors will be covered in the course. Learning about the hierarchy of hazard control will show that monitors are one part of protecting workers from dangerous gases. Upon completion of the course, you will be presented with a final exam to test your knowledge.

- A mark of 80% must be achieved in order to pass this course. Participants are able to repeat the test three times in efforts to achieve the pass mark.

Is there a time limit for online courses?
Everyone learns at a different pace and everyone retains information differently. When you take a course online, you go at your own speed. If you get to a certain point and don’t fully understand the material, you can pause and go back for a review. On the other hand, if everything makes perfect sense, you can go straight through the entire course right to the test.
How does virtual proctoring/testing with webcam monitoring work?
When you start your test, you will be monitored via your webcam. If you disappear from the screen or appear to be consulting another device or other material, you will be disqualified from the course.
